The students in less than 150 words using academic writing and APA format will 1) formulate a constructive, evidenced based response on a question or topic posed. 2) respond to a peer’s post and provide constructive feedback using course concepts.

In the online learning environment, discussion posts (original and responses) are an approach to engage learners and encourage critical thinking about course concepts. These are 150 word paragraphs that are concise with academic support (course reference) using a coherent and scholarly tone to apply and demonstrate insights into course concepts. These posts are small essays, in which you want to have a single central point/argument/issue and clear evidence to support your viewpoint. Limiting the scope of your response ensures a clear, focused, and relevant response to the topic at hand. Use and apply the week’s reading and class discussion concepts to enhance understanding/ support response(s). These paragraphs are academic and APA formatted with 1 in text class reference to support.

Before beginning the post, ensure review of all of the required readings are completed (Critical reading for analysis and comparison ). After reading, spend some time writing down reactions, ideas, and responses to the readings. Determine one-two of your strongest ideas, which the student will structure their response around. Assessing the course resources and applying them to support a particular assertion, response, or claim. Ensure you cited the concepts appropriately using APA format and scholarly reference source.

Discussion Post Success Strategies

1. Understand the intent of the original response type: a) reflection, b) example and support with your practice c) compare and/ or contrast.
2. Before beginning your post, read all of the required readings and review class session discussion.
3. After reading, reflect upon the information of the week’s discussion and readings. Take time to make points and write down your thoughts/ reactions, ideas, and responses to the readings and class discussion.
4. Determine the strongest idea which you will structure your response around, by assessing the amount of evidence (academic reference) you have to support the insight, assertion, response, or claim to topic, questions or issue posed
5. Respond to the question posed academically formatted. Avoid personal opinion or generalizations.
6. Revise your post to be focused and concise and meet 150 word count (not including reference).
7. Use and support with 1 intext citation of course.
8. Ask open ended questions at the end of your post for a peer to respond to.
9. Proofread – is the question answered – is the response clear? – is it 150 words? – is there at least 1 reference in text to support – is it academically formatted? Does my reference list match my intext citation(s)?
10. Access your faculty’s feedback on previous assignments. Based on that feedback, apply to improve the next post.
